Knowledge should be shared, with joy!
When we do research, be it for our own knowledge, competition entries, or school papers, knowing where we got our information AND sharing that with others is important. A challenge for me, and others before me, in researching the Iron Age of Finland is the lack of published information; also, my language barrier which Google translate has greatly helped (even though it is not perfect).
And in recent years more publications have been emerging and are being translated in to English.
In delving in to this specific rabbit hole, the Finnish Iron Age Facebook group has been invaluable.
The people that support and contribute, in their kindness, have helped guide me to information sources and correct me when I have had the wrong understandings. This group is awesome. The files are helpful. And at this point, 2022, new content is updated.
I'm also giving info and visuals for in hand /printed sources I have that I've been able to gather. I am not providing links to specific sites for purchase, but there is publishing information and cover pictures; because if you are a visual learner, pictures help.
Below that are links to websites, blogs, and social media. You may be surprised what I've been able to learn through pictures!

I was able to purchase this booklet from The Ravattula Project. www.ravattula.fi This website is a huge source for me, considering it is the official Ravattula information! There is an online version here but it is not exactly the same. Pictures are worth a thousand words... and an Instagram for Ravattula is below! |

This little booklet has been extremely difficult to get a hold of, But I did!! Through the FB group and contacting someone there.
It was not published per se, but as I understand, was sold at an in person teaching on the Perniö "puku" (suit/outfit).
This is how much of the information was disseminated prior to interest in Iron/ Viking Age Finland spreading outside of Finland thanks to the internet and recreation groups.
The pictures inside are wonderful, and Google translate has been very helpful in understanding this since it is in Finnish. But even without that, it is excellent.
on the back cover, if it helps:
Perniön, MAA-JA KOTITALOUSNAISET RY, Leader II
Websites, videos, and Other bloggers
We are all learning together. And we should never stop that, right?!
I want to say a public thank you to Mervi Pasanen and all of her continued help! She has a fantastic blog/website here and also a fabulous Instgram. She is a literal expert in the field and with Maikki Karisto they have a few published books, both of which have helped me in my tablet weaving journey.
Well, again, with so much online links, or needed to be shared person to person, blogs and websites have been helpful. Some more than others, but we all do what we can.
I have not gathered every single blog that has everything about the Finnish Iron age. Only a few I have found helpful, and I'll update as I come across them again... I've got years worth of bookmarks and screenshots, y'all! Good luck in your searches too! Let me know if you'd like to see a blog or site added to this list!
