I'm known in the sca as
Rikissa Ravattulalainen
this means Rikissa belonging to the place/village Ravattula.
The College of Heralds have a hard time with 13th Century Iron Age Finland, because Finnish wasn't "written down in any way until the middle ages."a We are talking the 16th century here and Finnish did not "achieve official [government] status [until] 1863"b There is lots of history here, and prior to the middle ages anything written was likely to be in Swedish. This makes registering a Finnish persona name with the College of Heralds within the SCA really difficult.

So, you may know me by Rikitsa Kippsdotter, Kippi Rikizsa, Krista... or a fEwe* others I've used. But, I've been delving in to an Iron age Finnish persona for a while now, and I'm working hard to get details correct. Over my 30+ years of playing SCA I've done a bunch of things, learned many skills... but 1200's Finland has really stuck; even with translation and lack of publication challenges!
Thankfully more knowledge is being shared constantly, and it is amazing!
To learn more about me, please visit the about me section.
The rest of this site I will fill with projects, interests, new things I learn, successes, and failures! in the hope that everyone that sees this can learn and grow. And maybe, just maybe, in doing this I can help others to be inspired!

b. "Finnish has a written tradition dating from the 16th century, when the Lutheran bishop Mikael Agricola translated the New Testament into Finnish." https://www.britannica.com/topic/Finnish-language *IYKYK, and if you don't, just ask! It's funny. |
see now why I chose to call it research and ramblings??
Want to read about the things I am doing? or have done?check out my blog pagesPages Rikissa? Pages plural, you say??
Why yes! I'm trying to keep things organized, at least per my brain. And like Camelot from Monty Python... it is a silly place. I am however working to upload my new projects as I complete them... and also add former projects that I hadn't talked about yet. Enjoy! |
A quick ABOUT MEProfessional mom, wife, and procrastinator, all while being an artistic perfectionist that is interested in many, many topics. I have boxes of UFP's (Unfinished projects) and yet can be hyper-focused. Scattered? Yes, sometimes. Often. I have ADHD and kids... it's like hyper squirrels in my head.
But you'll never be bored if you follow along! |
A place where many of us that are interested got our start...
